I can't tell the background apart from the buildings. This photo from above is like my worst nightmare. It makes it easy to distinguish what's what in a given picture. That picture above brings me to my next factor, color.Ĭolor Contrast helps a ton when making cutouts. It looks fine zoomed out, but when you try zoom in, it becomes hard to tell compression artifacts apart from what's really depicted. Here is an example of what that looks like. Compression looks like blocks of colors that are slightly out of place. From afar, a picture could look very clear with no compression, however when you go to outline the background to remove it, you notice jpeg compression, and that sometimes makes it much more difficult, or near impossible to make a cutout correctly.

High color contrast between the sky and mountain, no overly jagged peaks.Īnother factor that changes the difficulty is how much the photo has been compressed. Here is an example of a photograph that it would be easy to make a cutout for. this is a tiny selection from the image above, and it has dozens of small holes in the leaves that would have to be removed, and it would be a tedious process. I don't know if that makes sense, but i tried. And often times, those gaps are small enough so that you can notice them while looking at them in the picture, but when trying to remove them, you can't tell the holes apart from the tree. And trees are the WORST! There are so many holes that need to be removed so that a visualizer place behind them would look right. You may be able to distinguish the difference by looking at it, but when you are looking at it pixel by pixel, it becomes extremely difficult to follow that edge accurately. If you follow the edge of the mountain down toward the water, you'll notice how the color matches the background and clouds in front of it. Notice the large mountain on the right of the picture. This is a good example of a wallpaper that would be extremely difficult for me to do a cutout that would look good. Photographs of landscape tend to take longer because of the amount of different objects and colors in any given portion of the picture. I'll get to your cutout tomorrow, but i can answer your question.Ī cutout can take about 5 minutes, or over an hour depending on certain factors: Maybe I'll get everything right on my next post lol. I did fix a few that i still had the original files for, but that is only about three of them. I just found out that I wasn't using the correct setting when saving them from photoshop. I was supposed to keep the file size of the cutouts under 2 mb so imgur wouldn't turn them into jpegs and add a white background to the cutouts. Gotta watch some FireflyĮdit 3: I just realized I fucked up on a few of these. Please know that if I try to do a picture like that, it may not look correct.Įdit 1: It's my bedtime, but I'll be back tomorrow to do more!Įdit 2: I'm back bois. Pictures that are blurry, have low color contrast, or are highly compressed are extremely difficult to do. Please tell me where you will be placing the visualizer if it is not obvious where it should be There are some rules and things you should know before submission:

This is a tutorial on how to use cutouts with wallpapers just in case you don't know how to do it If you don't know what I'm talking about, submit something like this, I'll make this, so you can do this. I received many awesome submissions and kind words from everyone, and I'm back to do more Hello r/rainmeter! About 3 months ago, I made a post where I wanted people to submit wallpapers so I could make a cutout for visualizers and such.
